Explanations of the IELTS test itself and the BERKELEY HOUSE IELTS Official Test Centre for those sitting the IELTS for the first time.
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System, and is a evaluation test designed to serve as proof of practical, international English ability needed for study abroad, immigration, and work. It is jointly managed by Cambridge Assessment English, the British Council, and IDP: IELTS Australia, and its scores are accepted by over 11,000 organisations in 140 countries worldwide.
In Japan, several corporations administer the test, including the Eiken Foundation and the British Council.
BERKELEY HOUSE opened its test centres in partnership with the British Council in 2021, in Tokyo and Nagoya.
Widely accepted worldwide as proof of English proficiency
More than 11,000 organizations in 140 countries recognize IELTS scores.
This is the most suitable test for proving English proficiency for study abroad, working, and immigration to the UK, Canada, Australia, the US, and the English-speaking world.
More and more Japanese universities are using it for their entrance exams as well.
There are several types of IELTS test.
IELTS on Paper | This is the traditional IELTS test that uses paper test booklets and answer sheets. |
---|---|
IELTS on Computer | This is a newer style of IELTS test in which candidates come to the Test Centre and sit the test using the computers there. |
IELTS Online (Academic Module only) |
Some countries and regions have begun introducing IELTS tests available through Internet connection, that can be sat at home. Click here for details |
IELTS Academic |
The Academic Module is designed to measure a candidate’s level, specifically whether they can handle coursework in English at universities and graduate schools. If you are thinking of studying at a university or graduate school overseas, or taking a job at a specialized institute in the English-speaking world, this is the module you need. |
---|---|
IELTS General Training |
The General Training Module is suited for candidates who need to prove their English ability for a non-academic purpose. If you are considering immigration to Australia, Canada, or New Zealand, this is the module you need. ※Please be sure to confirm with the Recognising Organisations whether you need Academic Module or General Training Module scores. |
※Standard Version/UKVI
IELTS comes in Standard version IELTS and UKVI version IELTS. If you are planning to study or work in the UK, you may be required to prove your English proficiency in order to apply for a visa to the UK, generally through one of the Secure English Language Tests (SELT) recognised by the Home Office, such as the IELTS for UKVI(Academic/General Training) or IELTS Life Skills.
Berkeley House IELTS Official Test Centre offers
