How much does it cost to sit the test? How do I pay?
The price is JPY25,380 (tax included). You can pay by credit card, via online transaction. (VISA, MasterCard, Diners Club, JCB, Discover, American Express)
How do I apply to sit the IELTS test? What do I need to apply?
You can apply online for your IELTS test. For details on the application procedure, please see the "Application Procedure" document.
It is recommended that you apply early, before places fill up.
You will need a passport that is valid on test day. Please have your passport handy when you start the application process.
Should I sit the Academic or General Training Module?
Please confirm with the body requesting the scores (the educational institution, employer, or immigration authority) to determine which test you need to sit. In order to confirm that the organization accepts IELTS scores, please check the IELTS Official site.
What should I do if my details (name, address, email address, etc.) change after I've applied?
You can update your address from the test-taker page when you make a new booking. However, If you would like to change your name or email address or if you would like to change your address after you have made a booking, you cannot change them yourself and need to contact the Test Centre at least 3 days before your test date.
I would like special accomodations. What should I do?
If you have a disability or a temporary decline in your physical ability and need special accomodations, this can be arranged. If you need special accomodations, please contact the Test Centre as early as you can.
Will the test be finished in one day?
It will be finished in one day. At the BERKELEY HOUSE IELTS Official Test Centre, the Speaking test is offered on the same day as the other three tests (Listening, Reading, and Writing), and you can choose your preferred time slot for your Speaking Test.
How long does each test take?
The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests take a total of 2 hours 45 min. and the Speaking test takes 11-14 min.
What should I bring on test day?
During the Listening, Reading, and Writing tests, you can only bring your passport and water in a transparent bottle into the test room. For details, please see "IELTS for Beginners."
Can I leave my seat during the test?
Except for during the Listening test, between the sections of the test, and the last ten minutes of each test, it is allowed to leave your seat.
How should I prepare for my IELTS test?
Berkeley House, the school affiliated with the Test Centre, offers IELTS test prep courses. For details, please see the "IELTS Prep" page of the Berkeley House homepage.
When will I know my IELTS test results?
IELTS test results become availabe 3-5 days after an IELTS on Computer and 13 days after an IELTS on Paper. You can see your results from your test-taker page. Your score report will be issued at the same time and this normally reaches you within 3-5 business days.
What should I do if I need additional score reports?
If you need additional score reports to submit to educational institutions, it is possible to issue more. For details, please see "Issuing Additional Score Reports" on the "Register for an IELTS test" page.
*Only one score report can be issued to the individual test-taker.
How long are my results valid?
Most institutions will recognize IELTS score reports that are less than two years old as valid. Score reports can be reissued for two years following test day, so please be mindful of this fact.
I'm unhappy with my test result. What should I do?
You can request that your test be rescored by submitting an "Enquiry on Results" form within 6 weeks from test day. For details about procedures and fees, please see "Rescoring Requests" on the "IELTS for Beginners" page.
I am dissatisfied with the way the test was conducted. What should I do?
Please submit a Complaint Form to the test center on the test day or before the test results are finalized. Or, submit a Complaint Form directly to "ielts.org". The IELTS Complaint Policy can be found at this site.
Will exams still be held in cases of typhoons or heavy snowfall?
We will consider canceling the exam when a storm warning or heavy snowfall warning is issued for Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo for the Tokyo venue and Nakamura-ku, Nagoya for the Nagoya venue.
If the exam is cancelled, we will notify all the test takers as soon as possible and reschedule the exam or provide a refund at no charge.
If the exam is scheduled to go ahead as planned, we will not contact you, but if you are unable to attend due to public transportation delays, you may reschedule or receive a refund if you provide proof of delay along with a rescheduling or refund request form within 2 days of the exam (fees will apply as usual).
